Jon Eric Brantner - Candidate for Shenandoah City Council Ward 2

Jon Eric Brantner is running for Shenandoah City Council Ward 2 against incumbent Robert Burchett.

Brantner was raised in Shenandoah and said this community has given him a lot of opportunities and helped shape him into the person he is today.

“I was approached  and asked if I had ever considered running for public office, and to be honest, I hadn’t,” said Brantner. “I decided this would be a good way to give back to my community and make it a better place.”

Brantner said if he is elected, he will work as diligently as possible to do what is right for the best interest of Shenandoah and constituents of his ward.

“I enjoy being a part of this community and want to see it succeed,” said Brantner. “If I can be a bigger part of making it successful, than I should do that.”

Brantner said he is running because he cares about the town and believes he has a contribution to make and hopes that his service, if elected, would allow him to do that.

Since announcing his candidacy, Brantner has spent a lot of time talking to people and getting to know what they are happy and unhappy about. He wants to get out and talk to more of the constituents in his ward and other people in Shenandoah.

“Every conversation I have with someone gives me a different perspective or insight,” he said. “People aren’t happy right now, that’s one thing I have learned over the past two or three weeks since I announced my candidacy.”

Brantner said he would like to get a clear understanding of the water bill increase.

Brantner said he could bring better communication from a different age base to the city council and is confident he can make a difference in that area.

“I think that I can bring in a different concept or different mentality to different things and maybe some fresh ideas,” said Brantner.

Brantner said social media is an outlet that he is very comfortable with and it can be utilized for feedback and communicating with people in his ward.

Brantner has degrees in both information technology and business and he is the Director of information technology at Earl May Seed and Nursery. He has been with Earl May Seed and Nursery for the past 14 years. He also bartends at The Depot.

Brantner has been involved with the Eagles club since he turned 18.

“I try to get involved in as many activities and community events as time allows,” said Brantner.
