MALVERN – The Essex/South Page Trojans scored four runs in the first inning, Wednesday, July 3, but East Mills scored in every inning, winning 14-4.
The game was called in five innings due to the run rule. The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the second game was suspended in the second inning with no score. The game will be completed, Monday, July 8 at 6 p.m. in Essex.
Colton Thornburg, Quentin Thornburg, Jacob Robinette and Jake Gray all scored in the first inning for the Trojans.
Colton Thornburg and Eli Drennen finished with two hits each to lead the Trojans, but they couldn’t contain East Mills’ bats.
Drennen started on the mound for Essex/South Page and gave up nine runs, eight earned, in 2.2 innings. Quentin Thornburg and Wesley Johnson combined to pitch the final 2 innings before East Mills ended the game in the bottom of the fifth.
The Wolverines ended with 11 hits and took eight walks against Trojan pitching.
Quentin Thornburg drove in a run while Colton Thornburg stole four bases.
Essex/South Page fell to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in the Corner Conference with the loss.
Trevor Glockel earned the complete game for the Wolverines, who improved to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
