GRISWOLD – The Essex Trojans won their first golf event, Friday, April 5.
In the opening competition for the new program, the Trojans shot a 261 to beat Nodaway Valley’s 318. The hosts from Griswold didn’t have enough golfers for a team score.
Philip Franks and Tucker Hadden both shot a 61 to lead the Trojans. That score put them in a three-way tie for second, along with Brock Wallace of Griswold. Hadden earned the runner-up honor on the tiebreak.
Conner Linn of Griswold was medalist with a 52.
Essex’s other scorers were Tristan Frank with a 65 and Andrew Hammargren with a 74.
Wesley Johnson’s 75 and Brice Sederburg’s 79 completed the Trojan lineup.
The Essex girls also competed and finished between Griswold and Nodaway Valley.
The Trojanettes shot a 229, compared to a 214 for Griswold and Nodaway Valley’s 287.
Jessie Jones led the Trojanettes with a 51 to earn overall runner-up honors.
Griswold’s Jenna Reynolds was medalist with a 46.
Lexi Burnison finished fourth overall and was Essex’s second best golfer with a 55.
Allie Sandin’s 61 and Savanna Moffett’s 62 completed the scoring for the Trojanettes.
Ainsley Byers and Allison Johnson completed Essex’s varsity lineup with a 64 and a 77.
The next event for both Essex teams is their first 18-hole tournament of the season. The boys travel to Shenandoah, Tuesday, April 9 and the girls to Shenandoah two days later.
