UNDERWOOD – The Sidney Cowboys had the leadoff man on in three of the game’s five innings, but couldn’t push a run across in a 12-0 loss to Class 2A number 9 Underwood, Thursday, June 6.
Underwood scored in every inning against Cowboys pitcher Garett Phillips.
Phillips gave up eight hits and 12 runs, seven earned, with two walks and two strikeouts.
The Eagles scored four runs in the first, three in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth. Every Eagle player in the starting lineup scored a run.
Phillips singled to start the first inning against Eagles starting pitcher Jamie Marsh, who gave up four of the five Cowboy hits in three innings.
Cole Stenzel doubled to start the second and Brett Gruber singled to start the fourth for Sidney.
Gruber finished with two hits. Jaden Sears also had a hit.
The Cowboys fell to 1-4 with the loss while the Eagles improved to 7-1.
