FORT DODGE – Sidney senior Noah Jorgenson capped his career with a runner-up finish at the state cross country meet, Saturday, Nov. 2.

Shenandoah junior Brenna Godfread and sophomore Sarah Gilbert also competed. Godfread took 54th in the Class 2A race in 21 minutes, 4 seconds and Gilbert was 80th in 21:34.

It was the best state time for both Shenandoah runners with Godfread competing for the third time and Gilbert for the second.

Jorgenson crossed the finish line in 16:25, the best time of his career. The only competitor in front of him was Nodaway Valley’s Joshua Baudler, who also beat him at the state qualifying meet.

Sidney coach Steve Meyer said Jorgenson’s runner-up finish is better than any finish he can remember in his time at Sidney, which spans about 40 years.

Video interviews with Jorgenson, Gilbert and Godfread can be seen at the Valley News Sports Facebook page. Full stories, including reaction from Meyer and Shenandoah coach Liz Skillern, will be available Monday at and in Wednesday’s edition of the Valley News.
