Stanton/Essex quarterback Keygan Day accounted for six touchdowns, but East Mills quarterback Michael Schafer had a part in eight as Schafer’s Wolverines outscored Day’s Vikings 69-46, Friday, Sept. 27.
Schafer passed for 285 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another 135 and three scores as East Mills grabbed the early lead and held on throughout.
Day passed and ran for more yards than Schafer. Day was 27 for 42 through the air for 319 yards and four scores. Colton Thornburg caught 14 of those passes for 162 yards and two scores. Jack Roberts and Easton Hultman also caught touchdown passes for the Vikings.
Day added 159 rushing yards on 19 carries and two more scores. Logan Roberts added a rushing touchdown for the Vikings.
Logan Roberts also led the defense with 11.5 total tackles and two for loss, but the Vikings couldn’t contain Schafer and the Wolverines, who have now won five straight games and are 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Class 8-Man District 7.
The loss was the fourth straight for the Vikings, dropping them to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the district. The Vikings travel to Griswold, Friday, Oct. 4. The Tigers haven’t won a game this season.
