The regional volleyball tournaments are set after the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released regional pairings, Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Sidney has a first round bye and then has the potential to play two home games leading into the regional final. Shenandoah, Essex and Fremont-Mills are all on the road for the first round and would continue to travel through the remainder of their postseason run.
The Fillies will travel to Clarinda, Wednesday, Oct. 23 in a Class 3A Region 3 first round match.
Number 9 Red Oak is the region’s top seed and will play the Clarinda/Shenandoah winner in a semifinal if the Tigers can beat Atlantic in the opening round. The regional semifinal is set for Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The other half of the bracket includes number 11 Des Moines Christian, Saydel, Creston and Clarke. The regional final is Monday, Nov. 4 in Atlantic.
Sidney, Essex and Fremont-Mills are all in Class 1A Region 3.
The Trojanettes will open tournament play at Bedford, Tuesday, Oct. 22 with the winner of that match traveling to Sidney to play the top-ranked Cowgirls, Monday, Oct. 28.
Sidney is also scheduled to host a regional semifinal, Thursday, Oct. 31 with Lenox, Diagonal, Lamoni and Central Decatur the possible semifinal opponents. The semifinal winner will play, Tuesday, Nov. 5 in a regional final at Fremont-Mills High School.
The Knights have a tough draw as they visit number 11 East Mills in the first round match on the other half of the 1A-3 bracket, Tuesday, Oct. 22.
East Mills is the region’s number two seed and has two more home matches scheduled after that, starting with East Union or Mormon Trail, Monday, Oct. 28. Southwest Valley, Murray, Stanton and Griswold are the potential semifinal opponents, Thursday, Oct. 31.
The regional final winners advance to the state tournament, which is scheduled for Nov. 12 through 15 at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
