SIDNEY – Garett Phillips and Brett Gruber combined to hold down Griswold’s bats and the Sidney Cowboys earned their third Corner Conference win of the season 9-2, Thursday, June 13.
The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning off of Phillips, but he shut down the Griswold offense from there, striking out 11 in five innings. The Tigers had just two base runners over the final six innings.
The Cowboys came right back to take the lead with a three-run first inning. They would add three in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth for the final margin.
The Cowboys ended with 11 hits with eight starters recording at least one. Phillips, Cole Stenzel and Cale Phillips had two each.
Stenzel drove in three runs and scored twice. Justis Hayes drove in a pair of runs to help the Cowboys improve to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the Corner Conference.
Griswold dropped to 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
