Seth Malcom rushed for 458 yards and eight touchdowns as Fremont-Mills jumped into the driver’s seat of Class 8-Man District 7 with a 58-21 win over East Mills, Friday, Oct. 11.
The Knights improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in Class 8-Man District 7. East Mills’ regular season is over with a 4-1 district record, meaning the Knights need to win one of their final two games to secure a district title and a playoff berth.
Malcom scored three touchdowns in the first half, but two late Wolverine touchdowns brought East Mills within 24-21 at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Knights as Malcom ran wild and the Knight defense, led by Malcom, Colton Hauschild and three Daniel Vanatta interceptions, held East Mills’ high-powered offense without a point.
Malcom’s 458 yards was the fourth best single-game total in Class 8-Man state history. He carried the ball 35 times.
Hauschild attempted just two passes, completing one for five yards to Vanatta. James Switzer added 53 rushing yards on seven carries.
Hauschild led the defense with 10.5 tackles. Malcom added eight and tallied an interception.
East Mills quarterback Michael Schafer completed 25 of 47 passes for 259 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted four times.
Mason Crouse and Nic Duysen caught 10 passes each for East Mills, but both were held just short of 100 receiving yards. Duysen added 10 tackles and took a kickoff back for a touchdown.
