SIDNEY – Playing without several starters, the Sidney Cowgirls fell 12-1 to Lenox, Monday, June 10.
The win was the 10th of the season for Lenox against just one loss.
Sidney pitcher Olivia Larsen kept the game close until the sixth. The Tigers scored two runs in the first, but no more until a seven-run sixth.
The Cowgirls cut the Lenox lead to 2-1 in the home fifth. Madison Kingery walked, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a bunt by Emily Hutt.
Sidney had just one hit against Lenox pitcher TJ Stoaks, who struck out 16. Larsen singled with two outs in the third.
Lenox scored seven runs in the sixth inning, including a two on a triple by Kayla Yzaguirre. A walk and two errors opened the inning. The Tigers added three more runs in the seventh for the final margin.
Sidney played without four regular starters, the four that would have played the infield defensively with Larsen pitching.
“I’m proud of the young kids that got thrown into the fire,” Sidney coach Kent Larsen said. “Hutt made all the plays at first. Kaden Payne had a nice catch at second and Mia Foster gave it her all at short.”
Madison Kingery made her second straight start at third base.
The loss dropped Sidney to 4-4 on the season.
