Shenandoah junior Lydia Morales-Llan races in the shuttle hurdle relay, Tuesday, March 26, in Creston.

CLARINDA – Shenandoah’s Logan Hughes and Essex’s Riley Jensen won the shot put and high jump respectively at Clarinda’s Lady Cardinal Relays, Tuesday, April 2.

Hughes threw the shot put 39 feet, 6.5 inches to lead Shenandoah to a fifth-place finish in Class 2A. She was more than a foot better than the field in the event.

Hughes also placed fourth in the discus at 108-11. Teammate Sara Morales-Llan placed in both events as well, taking fifth in the shot put and sixth in the discus.

Jensen won the Class 1A edition of the high jump, clearing 5-0 to give the Trojanettes 10 of their 11 team points. Teammate Sarah Madsen scored the other point with a sixth-place finish in the same event.

Jensen and Madsen finished 1-2 in the junior varsity 200 meter dash.

Roxy Denton scored eight more points in the field for the Fillies, clearing 5-1 to finish second in the high jump.

The Fillies were also third in the shuttle hurdle relay with the team of Riley Hunter, Claire Adkins, Hadlee Kinghorn and Lydia Morales-Llan finishing in 1 minute, 22.55 seconds.

The Fillies scored in four additional relays. They were fourth in the 4x800, fifth in the 4x200 and sixth in the 4x400 and 1600 medley. Adkins, Brooklen Black, Claire Campbell, Denton, Sarah Gilbert, Brenna Godfread, Kinghorn, Carlie Manrose, Lydia Morales-Llan, Cassidy Morris and Olivia Stogdill all ran in at least one of those relays.

Campbell scored five of Shenandoah’s remaining seven points, placing fourth in the 3000 meter run and sixth in the 1500. Lydia Morales-Llan added a fifth-place run in the 400 hurdles.

Glenwood scored 158 points, six better than Atlantic to win in Class 2A. Treynor won a tight race in Class 1A with 108 points.

The Fillies and Trojanettes return to the track, Thursday, April 4 in Red Oak.
