Fremont-Mills returned from two weeks off to win its district opener in emphatic fashion, Friday, Sept. 27.

Shenandoah, Stanton/Essex and Sidney all suffered home losses in district play.

Recaps of all four games, the full scoreboard for our two area districts and the updated standings for both districts are below.

Greene County 49 Shenandoah 7

The Shenandoah Mustangs were held to 13 yards of total offense as Greene County flexed its state-ranked muscle in winning its fifth straight game to start the season.

The Mustang defense held Rams running back Colby Kafer to 85 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown, but quarterback Brent Riley passed for 231 yards and four scores.

The Rams also took two Kyle Cerven passes back for touchdowns.

Shenandoah’s only touchdown came in the first quarter when Anthony Stogdill returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score to trim the Ram lead to 14-7.

Greene County led 28-7 at halftime.

Shenandoah’s top two backs, Morgan Cotten and Kyle Cerven combined for negative 30 yards rushing on 15 carries. Cerven completed just 5 of 18 passes for 53 yards.

Shenandoah dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in Class 2A District 9.

East Mills 69 Stanton/Essex 46

Stanton/Essex put up 46 points on the district leading Wolverines but couldn’t keep up with East Mills’ high-powered offense.

The Wolverines led 31-18 at halftime and kept the lead at a two to three touchdown margin throughout the second half.

Keygan Day passed for 319 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another 159 yards and two scores.

Colton Thornburg caught 13 passes for 162 yards and two scores.

Stanton/Essex fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in Class 8-Man District 7.

Bedford 50 Sidney 22

Bedford scored 30 points in the second quarter, including 22 in a span of three minutes, 30 seconds in beating Sidney.

Cole Stenzel scored in the second quarter for the Cowboys to cut the Bulldog lead to 22-8, but Bedford’s quick 22 points came later in the half to start running clock late in the second quarter.

Bedford extended the lead to 50-8 in the fourth quarter, but Sidney scored twice in the last two minutes for the final margin.

Tyler Hensley and Taylor McFail had Sidney’s late touchdowns.

Hensley led the Cowboys on the ground with 66 yards. Stenzel added 44. Matthew Benedict passed for 83 yards but threw two interceptions that were returned for Bedford touchdowns in the first half.

The Cowboys dropped to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Class 8-Man District 7 while the Bulldogs improved to 3-3 and 2-1.

Fremont-Mills 75 Griswold 12

The Fremont-Mills Knights played their first district game and first game of any kind in three weeks, and routed Griswold.

There were 12 Knights that carried the ball for a combined 411 yards and eight touchdowns, which came from six different players.

Seth Malcom led the ground attack with 124 yards and two scores on just seven carries. Colton Hauschild added two rushing touchdowns and a passing score.

The Knights led 32-0 at the end of the first quarter and 53-0 at halftime in improving to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the district.

Griswold hasn’t won in six games, three in district play.
