The Shenandoah, Stanton/Essex and Fremont-Mills football teams picked up road wins in the district, while Sidney lost, Friday, Oct. 4 as part of Week 6 of the high school football season.

Brief recaps of all four games plus the full scoreboard from both area districts and updated standings are below.

Shenandoah 42 Red Oak 0

Shenandoah earned its second win of the year and pitched a shutout on defense for the first time since the 2015 season opener.

The Mustangs scored the first four times they touched the ball, all on drives of eight or more plays. Morgan Cotten and Conner Birt had rushing touchdowns in the first quarter. Kyle Cerven ran for a score and threw a pass to Wyatt Aufdenberg for another in the second period.

Birt and Cerven added touchdown runs in the second half as the Mustangs improved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in Class 2A District 9.

Cotten ran for 109 yards while Cerven added 100. Cerven also passed for 125 yards.

The Shenandoah defense held the Tigers to under 100 yards of total offense.

Shenandoah plays its final home game of the season next week against undefeated and state-ranked OABCIG.

Stanton/Essex 82 Griswold 54

Keygan Day passed for 10 touchdowns as Stanton/Essex ended a four-game losing streak with a road win over Griswold.

Day’s 10 passing touchdowns is tied for second most in Class 8-Man state history. He ended the game with 416 passing yards and added 133 yards rushing and an additional score.

Colton Thornburg caught seven passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns for the Vikings. Caden Henderson and Easton Hultman caught two passes each.

Although the Vikings gave up 54 points, they had a couple players with big individual games defensively. Logan Roberts ended with 21.5 total tackles and Tucker Hadden added 10.5. Roberts and Hadden had three tackles for loss each.

The Vikings improved to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the district. They return home to play Sidney next week.

East Mills 63 Sidney 22

East Mills pulled away late in staying on top of the district standings with a win over Sidney.

The Cowboy defense held East Mills quarterback Michael Schafer to 139 passing yards and three scores, but two special teams touchdowns helped the Wolverines to a three-score lead at halftime.

Tyler Hensley rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown to lead Sidney’s offense. He added a receiving touchdown as well.

Leighton Whipple added 33 rushing yards and a score as the Cowboys fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in Class 8-Man District 7 ahead of a road game with Stanton/Essex next week.

Cowboys quarterback Matthew Benedict completed all four of his passing attempts for 78 yards and a score.

Fremont-Mills 58 Bedford 42

Seth Malcom finished with seven total touchdowns and 336 yards rushing as the Knights won their second straight in district play.

The Knights trailed 24-22 in the second quarter but scored four of the next five touchdowns to take control of the game.

Jake Malcom played much of the game at quarterback after Colton Hauschild left due to injury and threw a touchdown pass to James Switzer in the third quarter.

The Knights host East Mills next week in a game that will almost certainly determine the district champion.
