The Shenandoah Fillies split four matches, Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson Tournament.

The Fillies finished 1-2 in pool play, beating Hawkeye 10 rival Denison-Schleswig 2-0 and losing to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 2-0 and Siouxland Christian 2-1. The Fillies then beat the host Yellow Jackets 2-0 in their placement match to end the day.

Shenandoah’s tournament began with the two losses, starting with a 21-7, 21-12 defeat to Class 5A number 8 Abraham Lincoln.

Roxy Denton put away four of the five Shenandoah kills in the match. Nichole Gilbert had four assists and four digs. Natalie Gilbert led the back line with eight digs. Sidda Rodewald added four.

Shenandoah then had its closest battle of the day, losing 21-12, 19-21, and 15-13 to Siouxland Christian.

Jasmine Rogers stepped up for Shenandoah with nine kills and a .389 hitting percentage, to go with three blocks. Denton added six kills. Nichole Gilbert distributed 17 assists and added 10 digs and three aces for Shenandoah.

The Fillies finished pool play with a 22-20, 21-13 win over Denison-Schleswig.

Natalie Gilbert led the offense with seven kills. Rogers added four. Nichole Gilbert led the Fillies with 13 assists and six digs. Rodewald added four digs.

The win earned Shenandoah a fourth match and it came against the host Yellow Jackets. The Fillies won 25-20, 25-17.

Natalie Gilbert had five kills on nine swings to lead the Shenandoah offense. Denton added four kills. Nichole Gilbert led the Fillies with 13 assists. Claire Adkins put up nine digs while Rodewald added five. Rogers finished the match with five blocks.

Abraham Lincoln beat St. Albert in the tournament’s championship match.

The Fillies ended the day with an 11-13 overall record. They return home for Senior Night, Tuesday, Oct. 8 looking for their first Hawkeye 10 Conference win against Creston.
