Sidney volleyball earned a 3-0 win in its first Corner Conference match of the season, beating Stanton 25-11, 25-21 and 25-13, Thursday, Sept. 5.
Playing its first game as the top-ranked team in Class 1A, Sidney rolled the in opening set. Stanton stayed close the entire second set, but was unable to win it. The Viqueens led for a short time early in the third, but Sidney rallied to complete the sweep.
Kelsey Hobbie led Sidney’s attack with 11 kills. Maddy Duncan added six while Paige Smith and Presley Brumbaugh contributed five each.
Olivia Larsen ended with 30 assists and led the defense with 10 digs. Smith and Brumbaugh added seven digs each.
Sidney was 68 for 74 at the service line. Hobbie had half of the six Cowgirl aces.
The Cowgirls improved to 11-1 overall in winning their first conference match of the season. They don’t play again until Essex comes to town, Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Stanton fell to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
