Sidney senior Mister McNaughton battles the field at Shenandoah's Mustang Relays, Monday, April 8.

TABOR – The Sidney Cowboys won their home track and field meet, Thursday, April 18, scoring 143 points.

Glenwood’s junior varsity finished second with 117 points, followed by Fremont-Mills’ 76. Essex placed seventh with 30 points.

The Cowboys won six individual events and six different athletes earned those victories.

Michael Benedict won the 200 meter dash in 24.81 seconds and Noah Jorgenson took the 400 in 53.55. Cole Jorgenson crossed first in the 1600 in 5:18.61 and Mister McNaughton won the 400 hurdles in 1:03.74. Thomas Wilson had the best discus throw of 131 feet, 8 inches and Matthew Benedict cleared 5-8 to win the high jump.

The Cowboys also won the 4x400 relay with Michael Benedict, Jaden Sears, Cole Hunt and Cole Jorgenson finishing in 3:51.98 and the 4x800 relay with McNaughton, Sears, Hunt and Connery Humphries in 9:25.20.

The Cowboys added runner-up marks in both medley relays. The sprint medley finished in 1:43.83 with McNaughton, Brydon Huntley, Sears and Michael Benedict while the distance medley crossed the finish line in 4:15.91 with Michael Benedict, Huntley, Adam Thompson and Cole Jorgenson.

Thompson added a runner-up finish for the Cowboys in the 800 in 2:17.17 and Hunt was second in the 400 in 56.04. Storm Barrett took third in the 3200 in 12:02.05.

Colton Thornburg and Caden Henderson placed in two events each for Essex. Thornburg was second in the 100 and 200, ending in 12.65 and 25.31. Henderson took second in the 3200 in 11:52.27 and third in the 1600 in 5:38.91.

The Knights scored most of their points in the relays and field events.

Jaeger Powers set the meet record in the long jump with a best leap of 20-7. Connor Alley added a win in the shot put, throwing 49-5. Teammate Mathew Kirchert was third in the shot put at 39-9.5.

The Knights won the 4x200, 800 medley and 1600 medley relays. Powers, Alley, Austin Gartner and Mason Vanatta made up the 4x200 and 800 medley teams. They finished the 4x200 in 1:39.32 and the sprint medley in 1:42.94. Vanatta and Gartner were joined by Colton Hauschild and Nick Miramontes to take the 1600 medley title in 3:59.54.

The Knights were also second in the 4x400 relay in 4:11.37 with Hauschild, Miramontes, Eli Owen and Nick Madison.

Miramontes added a third-place run in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.68.
