STANTON – The Stanton Vikings scored six runs in the fourth inning to break the game open and went on to beat the Sidney Cowboys 10-1, Tuesday, June 11.
The game was called after Sidney had batted in the top of the fifth due to rain.
Brett Gruber scored Sidney’s only run against Viking pitcher Colby Royal and had one of just three Cowboy hits for the game. A Cole Stenzel sacrifice fly drove in Gruber in the fourth, cutting Stanton’s lead to 4-1. Gruber and Justis Hayes both singled in the inning.
Zayne Osborn struggled to contain Stanton’s bats, giving up five hits and 10 runs, eight earned, in 3.2 innings. He struck out three and walked five.
Justis Hayes and Garett Phillips had the other hits for the Cowboys, who fell to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the Corner Conference.
Stanton improved to 6-2 after the win, 3-0 in the conference.
Drake Johnson had two hits, including a home run, for the Vikings. Royal and Donnie Weis both had doubles.
