Virginia L. McElroy 1939 - 2019 Virginia L. McElroy, 80, of Sidney, Iowa and formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa entered into eternal rest on Sunday morning, October 27, 2019 at The Ambassador - Sidney following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 24, 1939 in Tacoma, Washington to William Lee and Dorothy Frances (Ganske) Householder. A homemaker most of her life, Virginia worked as an Iowa Legal Aid for nine years and volunteered at West Page Improvement Center for many years. Activities and things that brought great enjoyment to Virginia included her flowers and flower gardens, gardening, collecting elephant and black and white cow figurines, doing puzzles and playing cards. Preceding Virginia in death were her mother, Dorothy Frances (Ganske) Coburn; step-father, Loris Coburn; father, William Leroy Householder; husband, Donald Bower McElroy; infant son, Richard Dean McElroy; son, Donald Lee McElroy Jr.; and granddaughter, Danielle Renee (Masters) Useche. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Billy James Coburn of New York, Patricia Arleyne Masters of Valrico, FL, Susayne Frances Horton and husband Bill Horton of Sidney, IA, September Dawn McElroy of Clarinda, IA, and Michael Coburn McElroy of Florida; two sisters, Barbara Jean Hembree of Indianapolis, IN, and Deloris Jane Wuertley and husband Ken of Avon, IN; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two nieces; other relatives; and many friends. A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at a later date. Professional services are under the direction of Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah.
