Maribel S. Beery 1933-2019 Maribel Smith Beery, daughter of Warren Eskew and Opal Elizabeth (Lewis) Smith was born on October 4, 1933 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, December 2, 2019 at Louisville Care Center in Louisville, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 1 month, and 29 days. Her early life was spent growing up in Shenandoah, Iowa. Fondly known as "Mary" to her family and friends, attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1951. On July 24, 1951, Mary was united in marriage to William H. "Bill" Beery at Red Oak, Iowa. Following their marriage they moved to Omaha, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Michael, Patricia and Julia. Bill passed away in June of 2015, after 59 wonderful years of marriage. While still in high school, Mary began working at George Jay Drug and later at McClelland's in Shenandoah. After moving to Omaha, she worked at Brandeis Department Store, Max I Walker Dry Cleaner's, Goldstein Chapman's, Mutual of Omaha as a claim auditor and last worked at Greyhound Bus Lines before retiring. Mary was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Bellevue, Nebraska. She enjoyed collecting (many things). Her favorites though, were Precious Moments figurines and Beanie Babies. Mary liked vintage items and loved to go antiquing any time she could do so. She was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and enjoyed following her team. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bill; and her five siblings, Warren Smith, Jr, Jack Smith, Joyce Sondag, Beth Ullsperger and John Rex Smith. Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Michael Beery and Terri of Omaha, NE, Patricia Harvat and her husband Jim of Millard, NE and Julia Hobbs and her husband John of Plattsmouth, NE; five grandchildren, Bill (Tiffany) Harvat, Michael Harvat and Michelle (Taylor) Woodward, all of Omaha, NE and Stephanie (Brandon) Rogers of Benson, NE and John (Darcy) Hobbs of Blair, NE; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 11:00 am at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Jack Langley officiating . The family greeted relatives and friends with visitation and viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service Thursday morning. Special music by Michael Harvat was "Heaven Is My Home", "How Great Thou Art" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness". Mary and Bill's special song, "Tennesee Waltz" was played to close the service. Casket bearers were Jim Harvat, Mike Harvat, Bill Harvat, John Hobbbs, Brandon Rogers and Taylor Woodward. Registry attendant was Michelle Woodward. Burial took place in Shenandoah's Rose Hill Cemetery next to her beloved husband. Memorials in her name are being directed to the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Bellevue, Nebraska.
