Deanna S. Ballain 1941 - 2019 Deanna Sue (Moore) Ballain, daughter of Donald Hubert and Lois Maxine (Jones) Moore, was born on August 19, 1941 at Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into rest on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 77 years, 7 months, 27 days. Born and raised in Shenandoah, Deanna attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1959. She began working at Mount Arbor Nursery during high school and full-time following graduation. Deanna was united in marriage to Larry Ambrose Hill at Shenandoah. They were married 15 years and had two sons, Tony Ambrose and Timothy Robert. They lived in Shenandoah and the Burlington, Iowa area. Deanna was a stay-at-home mom for several years until the boys were in school. On April 14, 1982, Deanna was united in marriage to Jack D. Ballain in Shenandoah. They lived in Shenandoah, New Mexico, and Essex before settling in Shenandoah. Over the years, Deanna worked at Henry Fields, a photography studio in New Mexico, J C Penney customer service, and lastly for Wal-Mart as their Jewelry manager until retirement. She spent a lot of time in southwest Iowa. Of great interest to Deanna was taking photos and videos, birds, golf, bowling and cooking (the family favorite was her cherry mash!). Her absolute interest was her grandchildren! She loved to spend time with her four grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey, Ashley, and Chance, and her great grandson, Gavin. Preceding her in death were her parents; and sister, Carol Mosier. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 37 years, Jack Ballain; her sons, Tony Hill of Red Oak, IA and Tim Hill of Essex, IA; grandchildren, Tyler Ambrose Hill of Harlan, IA, Kelsey Marie Hill of Harlan, IA, Ashley Nicole Hill of Defiance, IA and Chance Hill of Essex; great grandson, Gavin Leo Anderson of Harlan, IA; two brothers, David "Butch" Moore of Council Bluffs, IA, and Ernie Moore and wife Teresa of Albuquerque, NM; other relatives and many friends. A celebration of Life Memorial service was held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah at 11:00 am with Pastor Don Buttry officiating. The family greeted relatives and friends with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Urn bearer was Tyler Hill who also shared memories of grandma. Registry attendants were Connie Spencer and Corinne Gilbert. Flower attendant was Annabelle Anderson. Special music was "When I Get Where I'm Going", "Grandma's Hands", "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "Amazing Grace". Memorials in Deanna's name are being directed to People For Paws. Inurnment took place in Shenandoah's Rose Hill Cemetery. Professional services were under the direction of Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah.
