On Saturday, Sept. 22, more than 40 state parks will be hosting volunteer events to help spruce up the parks, and the public is invited to lend a hand.  All ages and experience levels are welcome.

Volunteer activities will be unique to each park and could include litter pick-up, painting buildings, clearing trails, planting trees and more.

Locally, Waubonsie State Park can use the following help:

10-20 volunteers are needed to build new picnic tables and install new benches from 9 a.m.-noon.

Meet at the Wa-Shawtee Maintenance Building, 2585 Waubonsie Park Road, Hamburg, IA  51640, wearing good solid work clothes and prepared to get dirty.

This volunteer event will be part of the all-day PawPaw festival at Waubonsie State Park that day.  The Friends of Waubonsie State Park group will provide refreshments, and the park will supply needed equipment aside from gloves.

For more information, contact the Park office 712-326-2786.
