Shenandoah Fire and Rescue Departments called to structure fire

The Shenandoah Fire Department and Rescue were paged to a structure fire at 4:40 p.m., Nov. 5 at 903 W. Valley Ave. The fire was located on the enclosed front porch. The house and basement were filled with smoke. The fire had burned through the porch floor and the exterior wall of the house and was starting to burn into the basement area. A crew was sent into the basement to extinguish that fire extension while a second crew extinguished the porch fire and checked for extension into the house. Burnt parts of the structure were cut and removed from the house to ensure the fire would not re-kindle. Exhaust fans were used to remove smoke from the house. The cause of the fire is believed to be improperly discarded smoking materials. They were on scene approximately one hour and there were no injuries. (Photo Valley News)
