Shenandoah band members play at Outback Bowl

Shenandoah High School band students Ciara Schierkolk, Kayla Shelton, Eli Schuster and Josh Schuster were part of the Southwest Iowa Honor Marching Band that played during Outback Bowl festivities, and the game itself, Jan. 1, in Tampa, Florida. The honor band had about 180 students from multiple schools from Shenandoah to Denison. Auditions were last spring. The band was part of a parade New Year’s Eve in Ybor City. The Iowa honor band played with all the other high school students from portions of the country during halftime of the game. Iowa defeated Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl, the first time the honor band has played in a bowl game with a team from Iowa since the band’s creation more than 30 years ago.
